An ongoing project exploring the different perspectives of entering womanhood in conservative Zanzibar. During my extended stay on the island, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching english & Arabic in a school on the outskirts of stonetown. I do not wear a headscarf, but was told it was obligatory. For 2 months I spent most of my days with the children, and I found myself as lost as the kids as to where womanhood stands in this small island. TBC...
